Facts about the Surgery:
Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia (enlarged male breast) can change a patient’s life. In general, there are two main types of breast enlargement in men: true gynecomastia and pseudo-gynecomastia. The difference between them is that in true gynecomastia there is an enlargement of the breast tissue and glands, while in pseudo-gynecomastia there is an enlargement in the size of the breast due to increased accumulation of fat in the area, either as a result of weight gain or the nature of fat distribution in the body.
In cases of pseudo-gynecomastia, the condition can be treated by liposuction only through small hidden holes in the side folds of the armpit without the need to make any noticeable incisions in the area.
In cases of true gynecomastia resulting from enlarged breast tissue, treatment is to remove the enlarged breast tissues and glands from the area. The pattern, length and location of the incision varies according to the size of the breast and the degree of enlargement, but most commonly, a horizontal incision is made in the breast, with or without repositioning of the nipples. Sometimes liposuction is combined with the removal of enlarged breast tissues, glands and part of the skin.
This operation does not require an overnight stay at the hospital. The pain is very mild and can be controlled using painkillers. The patient must wear a compression garment for approximately 3 weeks, and should also refrain from exercising during the first month after the operation. The final result of gynecomastia surgery is after 3 months.
