Facts about the Surgery:
Thigh lift surgery is considered a common procedure, especially for patients who have dramatically lost a lot of weight, after undergoing weight loss surgeries such as gastric sleeve, or by following strict diets. It is recommended for the person’s weight to be relatively stable before undergoing this operation.
Dr. Tarek Copty performs this operation under general anesthesia or partial (spinal) anesthesia. First, the surgeon would suction fat from the area to improve the circumference of the thigh, then the excessive skin will be eliminated through an incision that starts from the inguinal area (the line between the pelvis and thigh). The incision would extend to the inner part of the thigh. Its length varies according to the amount of sagginess, but may reach to the beginning of the knee. Dissolvable sutures are used in this procedure. In cases where liposuction is performed, Dr. Tarek Copty leaves one hidden hole in each thigh open to drain fluids (fluids with a specific composition- tumescent fluid- are injected before the liposuction to prevent bleeding during the procedure, and holes are left open to get rid of these fluids, thus speeding up the healing process after the operation). These holes stop draining fluid after approximately 24 hours.
It is possible to benefit from the suctioned fat by re-injecting it into the buttocks area, as the quality of fat usually found in the thighs is one of the best types of fat that can be used for re-injection. By doing so, the appearance of the lower half of the body will be enhanced and improved. This procedure greatly improves the appearance of cellulite, but it may not disappear completely.
It is recommended to stay for one night at the hospital. The patient must commit to wearing a compression garment during the first 3 weeks after the operation and avoid exercising for a month. The appearance of surgical scars gradually diminishes over time. It is normal to feel some pain after the operation, and it is controlled by taking analgesic painkillers.
