Facts about the Surgery:
Many people feel uncomfortable with the appearance of their arms, whether due to a clear accumulation of fat deposits leading to increased arm circumference, or due to the presence of loose and lax skin, especially after dramatic weight loss for example, or both. The arm liposuction and tightening procedure (AKA brachioplasty) helps solving this problem to obtain a harmonious appearance of the body. It is recommended for the patient’s weight to be stable before undergoing an arm lift surgery to maintain the result.
In cases where the problem is only fat accumulation without significant skin laxity, treatment can be done by performing liposuction to sculpt the arm, in conjunction with the use of the latest skin tightening technologies, such as the VASER or J-Plasma, to prevent any potential skin laxity. In cases where there is significant skin laxity, especially with presence of stretch marks, arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) is the ideal solution, oftentimes combined with liposuction, brachioplasty involves removing excess skin through a longitudinal incision in the inner part of the arm or the back part of the arm, starting from the armpit and may extend to the elbow area, depending on the patient’s condition and the degree of sagginess. In some cases, it is also possible to tighten the arms through a procedure called “minimal incision brachioplasty” in which a small incision is made in the armpit area to tighten the arm. The doctor chooses the appropriate location for the incision according to the nature of the body, the degree of laxity, and other factors.
Dissolvable (absorbable) sutures are used which dissolve on their own without the need for them to be removed after the recovery period. It is recommended to stay for one night at the hospital. The patient can resume daily showering 48 hours after the operation. Swelling and bruising are normal for 7-10 days. The patient must wear a compression garment for 2-3 weeks after the operation, and must refrain from exercising during the first month. The scar of this operation will be red at first but will gradually diminish. The final result of the arm lift procedure will be after 3 months.
