Facts about the Surgery:
There are different terms that are used to describe the upper face lift procedure, such as endoscopic brow and forehead lift, cat eye surgery, fox eye surgery, ponytail lift and scarless facelift. It is a surgical procedure used to achieve a more youthful appearance, by tightening sagging skin and lax muscles and tissues in the brow area. As is the case with many of the cosmetic surgeries performed by Dr. Tarek Copty, the procedure does not only enhance the appearance of the brows, but can also serve functional and therapeutic benefits by getting rid of the heaviness caused by droopy eyebrows and thus improving vision.
This operation is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon usually makes 4 small incisions inside the scalp. After that, a long thin tube equipped with a light and a small camera attached to the end of it is inserted through one of the incisions to see the underlying muscles and tissues. Through another incision, another instrument is inserted which the surgeon uses to lift the forehead tissues, and fixes them in place using small screws. These wounds are then closed using surgical staples to prevent any unwanted effect on the hair. This procedure does not require shortening the hair in the area before the surgery at all. The fixation screws are removed after 3-4 days, while the surgical staples are removed after approximately 10 days. The results of endoscopic brow lift last a lifetime.
In many cases, from the same surgical incisions inside the scalp, Dr. Tarek Copty tightens and lifts the cheeks, achieving what is called mid-facelift. Sometimes, according to patient’s request and desire, the lateral corner of the eye can be pulled upward to improve the outer edge of the eyes and create a more lifted and elongated appearance, a procedure called lateral canthoplasty or as it is colloquially known, the cat eye surgery.
Oftentimes, an endoscopic forehead lift is combined with an upper eyelid lift, the surgeon must be able to distinguish between cases that require one or both operations. Endoscopic brow lift is also often performed in conjunction with face and neck lifts to obtain a complete face lift.
Brow lift surgery differs from the forehead reduction surgery, in which an incision is made at the hairline, although both operations elevate the eyebrow in the end. It is also different from the direct brow lift operation, in which an incision is made directly above the eyebrow, and the excess skin is cut to raise the eyebrows. Dr. Tarek chooses between the previous procedures based on the condition and the patient’s desire and in harmony with other facial features.
This operation does not require an overnight stay in the hospital. The patient may feel some tension and pain, which is controlled by prescribed painkillers. It is normal for swelling and bruising to occur around the eyes and in the forehead during the first 7-10 days after the operation. It is recommended to keep the head elevated by using multiple pillows for the first two days after the operation to reduce swelling. It is also recommended to avoid sports and hair dying for 3-4 weeks after the procedure. The final result of this procedure appears after 3 months
