Gluteal (Buttock) Augmentation

About the Surgery:

Many women seek to enhance or enlarge their buttocks to achieve a more feminine appearance. A common way to enhance the appearance of the buttocks is to perform a procedure called the ‘Brazilian Butt Lift’. While exercise can help increase muscle mass slightly, and there are non-surgical techniques such as fillers and certain devices, these methods often do not produce significant or satisfactory results. Therefore, buttock augmentation surgery is considered the most effective solution for achieving noticeable, long-lasting, and immediate results. This procedure not only enhances the size and shape of the buttocks but also improves the overall skin condition, making it appear firmer and free from sagging.

There are two main types of buttock augmentation surgeries:

  1. Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) – Fat Transfer Augmentation: This procedure involves liposuctioning fat from areas such as the thighs or abdomen and reinjecting it into the buttocks using a hydraulic fat transfer technique with a syringe connected to a fat transfer pump. The amount of fat injected varies based on the patient’s preferences, body proportions, and the amount of fat harvested. On average, 0.5 to 1 liter of fat is injected into each side during the procedure. However, only 50-70% of the transferred fat survives, while the body absorbs the rest.
This technique offers a dual benefit: it removes unwanted fat from problem areas while using it to reshape and enhance the buttocks. However, BBL is not suitable for very thin individuals who do not have enough fat deposits for the transfer.

  2. Silicone Buttock Implants: This option is ideal for patients who do not have sufficient fat for a BBL. Silicone implants are placed beneath the gluteal muscles through a small, hidden incision in the natural crease between the buttocks.

Buttock implant surgery is considered more complex than fat transfer augmentation. Dr. Tarek Copty is one of the few surgeons in the region with expertise in performing this procedure with precision and high skill. Both fat transfer and silicone implant procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia, although they can also be done under regional anesthesia in some cases. The incisions are minimal in both procedures: small punctures for fat transfer and a hidden incision for implants.

Patients are typically required to stay in the hospital for one night after surgery. In the case of silicone implants, plastic drainage tubes may be placed to remove excess fluids, which are usually removed after 3-4 days. Patients must wear a compression garment and avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for the first two weeks after surgery. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for one month.

Pain is normal during the initial days, especially for implant patients, but it can be managed with prescribed pain relievers. The final results of buttock augmentation become fully visible after three months.

For buttock augmentation with fat transfer, there are only small puncture marks. In the case of silicone implants, there is a small hidden incision between the buttocks. A compression garment must be worn for 3 weeks in both cases.
